Step 1: Open Canva
Begin by opening Canva and creating a new project. Choose the appropriate dimensions for your project, whether it's for social media, a video, or any other platform.
Step 2: Set the Background
Set the background color to black. This will provide the perfect backdrop for our hacker text animation.
Step 3: Add Text
Now, add your text. Start with two lines for the first paragraph of your animation. To do this, click on the text tool or press the T key on your keyboard, and type out your lines.
Step 4: Duplicate and Add Text
Duplicate the text block you just created and type out your next line. Continue this process to add more lines (in this example: 4) to your animation.
Step 5: Change Text Color
Select all the text and change the color to green. This will give it that authentic hacker-style look.
Step 6: Add Glow Effect
To make your text pop, add a glow effect to all the text elements.
Step 7: Duplicate the Page
Duplicate the page to create multiple pages (4) for each paragraph of your animation.
Step 8: Delete Paragraphs
On the duplicated pages, delete paragraphs to control when each line of text appears in the animation. So on the first page, you should only have the first paragraph. On the second page, 2 paragraphs. On the third page, 3 paragraphs, and so on.
Step 9: Add Typewriter Animation
Go to the "Animate" tab and select "Typewriter" on the last line of each page. Make sure to set the animation to "only on enter" for each text element, when you apply the animation on each page.
Step 10: Adjust Timing
Select the first page and adjust the timing for your animation to 2.5 seconds. Click on "Apply to all". This will control the speed at which the text appears on each page.
Step 11: Add Typing Sound Effects
Search for "typing" in the "Elements" tab and add a typing sound effect. Adjust the audio to sync with the appearance of each text that appears. First duplicate it by pressing Ctrl/Cmd + D. Now click the end of the sound clip, and drag it to where it should stop.
Repeat the above process of duplicating and adjusting the length of the sound clip for each page.
Step 12: Add Glitch Video Effect
Search for "glitch" in the "Elements" tab and select a glitch video of your liking. Scale it to fit the screen, reduce transparency to 25%, and send it to the back by pressing Ctrl/Cmd + Alt/Option + left bracket [.
Step 13: Trim Glitch Background Video
Edit the timing of the glitch video to 2.5 seconds to control the length of each page.
Copy (Copy Ctrl/Cmd + C, and Paste Ctrl/Cmd + V) this shortened glitch background video to all the pages, and send it to the back by pressing Ctrl/Cmd + Alt/Option + left bracket [, on each page.
Step 14: Add Glitch Sound Effects
Search for "glitch" sound effects by going to the "Elements" tab. Find one you like, and add it to your animation, adjusting the volume as needed.
Step 15: Include Background Music
To enhance the dramatic effect, add background music to your animation.
Step 16: Customize the Last Page
Duplicate the last page by selecting it, and press Ctrl/Cmd + D. Select the page between the last 2 pages. Change the font of all the text on this page to something else. I found "Computer says no" which works well for this example. Convert all the text to uppercase by pressing Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + K, for that authentic hacker vibe.
Step 17: Add an Extra Green Background Page
Insert a new page with a green background between the last 2 pages, and set the page timing to 0.1 seconds, for a stylish transition glitch effect.
And there you have it! You've created an epic hacker text animation in Canva. Export your file as an MP4 or a GIF file.
Experiment with different text and background colors, as well as sound effects, to make your animation even more engaging. Have fun creating!
