Turn Boring Text to Engaging Motion Animations

Updated: Jun 1

Welcome to our step-by-step tutorial on animating custom texting conversations in Canva! This creative and engaging technique is not only perfect for personalizing your designs but also versatile enough for various applications, including showcasing tweets. Let's dive into the process and bring your Canva designs to life!

Step 1: Choose the Right Template

Start by launching Canva and searching for a suitable template. In the search box, type "Messaging" to explore the variety of templates available. Select a template that resonates with your vision and open it to begin the customization process.

Step 2: Personalize the Conversation

Once you've opened the template, make it uniquely yours. Change the name and profile picture to add a personal touch. Explore the color options by selecting a text box and changing the color to your preference. Utilize the "Change all" feature to apply the selected color to matching elements throughout the design.

Step 3: Update The Information

Ensure that the conversation includes your relevant details. Update the website link in the conversation to direct viewers to your website or portfolio.

Step 4: Duplicate and Arrange Chats

To create a dynamic conversation, duplicate the page and delete the unnecessary chats, leaving only the first one. Position the first chat at the bottom of the phone screen for a realistic feel.

Step 5: Apply Animations

Navigate to the "Animate" feature in Canva and experiment with different animations. For the first chat, choose the Baseline animation with an upwards direction. Duplicate the page and repeat the process for the second chat, opting for a leftward motion. Adjust the overall page duration to 2.5 seconds for a smooth flow.

Step 6: Add Page Transitions

Enhance the animation by adding page transitions. Click on the transition icon and choose "Match and Move" between all pages. This step contributes to the seamless transition of the conversation.

Step 7: Customize Timing

Fine-tune the timing between pages to ensure a polished and well-coordinated animation. This step allows you to control the pacing of the texting conversation for maximum impact.

Step 8: Typing Effect

Elevate your animation by creating a typing effect. Duplicate the first page and double-click on a text box. Type "dot dot dot" to simulate the person typing before the message appears. Increase the font size and place it in the middle of the text box.

Step 9: Scale Elements for Emphasis

To highlight specific parts of the conversation, duplicate the last page and add a Match and Move page transition between the last two pages. Select the second chat and its box, scaling them up for emphasis.

Step 10: Final Touches and Sound Effects (Optional)

For a polished finish, consider customizing the appearance of the conversation. Change the color of the gray box or experiment with different shades. If you want to enhance engagement, you can even add sound effects for when the text pops up.

Congratulations! You've successfully animated your custom texting conversation in Canva. This versatile technique can be applied to various designs, making your content more dynamic and engaging.
